Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program 2025–2026: Call for Applications to Chile Remains Open
Fulbright Chile invites U.S. scholars, academics, and professionals to apply for the 2025–2026 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, a prestigious initiative of the U.S. Department of State that promotes mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchange.
The program offers U.S. citizens the opportunity to teach, conduct research, or pursue a combination of both at Chilean universities and research institutions. Scholars are selected based on academic and professional achievement, leadership potential, and the relevance of their proposed projects to Chile’s academic priorities and development goals.
Three Key Areas of Opportunity
For the 2025–2026 academic cycle, applicants can choose from three priority areas:
- Science and Technology: including fields such as engineering, environmental sciences, innovation, and health technologies.
- Social Sciences, Humanities and Education: including disciplines such as history, literature, anthropology, political science, economics, and pedagogy.
- Astronomy and Antarctic Studies: two areas of global relevance where Chile offers unmatched geographic and scientific advantages.
All awards are designed to foster collaboration and exchange between Chilean and U.S. institutions and to support projects that contribute to academic excellence, institutional development, and cross-cultural understanding.
Why Chile?
Chile stands out as a dynamic and attractive destination for scholars. With its robust and expanding research infrastructure, Chile is home to some of Latin America’s top universities and world-class observatories. It is also a global hub for astronomical research, hosting 70% of the world’s astronomical infrastructure by 2030, and plays a key role in Antarctic studies due to its strategic proximity and investment in polar science.
In the social sciences and humanities, Chile offers a rich historical and cultural context, an engaged academic community, and growing interest in international collaboration. In science and technology, the country is a leader in renewable energy, climate research, and innovation-driven development.
Whether working in the Atacama Desert under the clearest skies on Earth, engaging with vibrant university communities in Santiago, or contributing to education and policy in regional centers, Fulbright Scholars in Chile have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
